#3: Oregano

April 13, 2011 By Jamie Dorobek 5 Comments

As some of you know, my New Year’s resolution involves spices…check it out HERE, if you would like.  For January, I used cardamom, February- tamarind, and this month I’ve discovered oregano! Let’s recall the health benefits of oregano:
Health Powers: Loosens mucus; helps treat respiratory illnesses; and calms indigestion.
I went to HEB, and was once again overwhelmed by this:

I ended up with this for 13 cents 🙂

Now, for my oregano inspired dinner:
-Baked french fries
-Veggie Burgers
For the Fries…I cut up a potato into fries! Tossed with olive oil, salt, pepper, and lots of oregano! Pre-heat the oven to 400, and baked for around 40 minutes…MUST remember to turn potatoes every 10 minutes or so 🙂
I recommend foil in the pan…unless you can handle this:
yum 🙂
As for the veggie burgers…I used my made up recipe, but instead of adding fresh basil, I added lots of dried oregano…
I like oregano…it seems to go nicely in lots of things 🙂
What spice should I use next month?

So, here's the story–I just "auditioned" fro OMTWI for the first time–my blog is brand new–and in browsing last season, I came across your blog! I'm your newest follower, and now very hungry 🙂

Oregano grows all over my front lawn…can't use it all, but it's so tasty!

Have you tried smoked paprika? Or garam masala (that one's kind of a cheat, but delicious!).

Those fries look amazing!! Yummm! How 'bout some cilantro? That's a family fave. Or maybe curry?
