C.R.A.F.T. #11: Magazine Envelope

February 20, 2010 By Jamie Dorobek 11 Comments

A personalized envelope for your snail mail treasures… I learned how to make these from Barbie, my mom’s canasta partner…My canasta partner is her husband, Geroge 🙂 Yes, I really do enjoy playing canasta!
First, pick a magazine page that inspires you and rip it out.
Next, place it vertically, face down on the table. Fold both sides in about 1/4 of an inch.
Then, fold the bottom up so that you leave about and 1.5 in. of space at the top.
Next, get out your Elmer’s glue, and glue the folded edges of your envelope together, leaving the 1.5in. space at the top.
Next, with your leftover 1.5in. at the top, dog ear the corners and cut off the little triangle
Last, make a cute little label to address your envelope and stuff it with your treasure.

VOILA. DONE.

Jamie – I love to make envelopes with wrapping paper, especially the kraft kind, that you get in the dollar stores and calendars, especially flowers and scenics. You might be working at it too hard, though. Use Google to find free envelope templates (size A2 for your cards that are 1/4th of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper). I have found rubber stamping and paper crafts to be an enduring hobby (since 1990!!!). My mail art friends and I have mailed some really weird stuff to each other. I have a tutorial on my blog on making photo postcards with Word that makes 4 postcards at once.

Hi Linda! Thanks for the tips! When I make envelopes on my own, I don’t use a template, I just fold 🙂 Love the idea of using wrapping paper!!! Thank you!

I LOVE your blog…I just stumbled across it from StumbleUpon (no pun intended) and I think it's brilliant. I just had to comment because I also love playing canasta, and I don't know anybody else who's not a grandparent who likes to play (I'm only 24 lol).
