Coffee Sleeve Business Cards

June 1, 2012 By Jamie Dorobek 3 Comments

I’ve made a few extra fancy business card designs in my day… out of things like cereal boxes and paint chips. My most recent version is pretty special if you like splatter paint and/or coffee.

Andy had a Panera Bread catered work event and coffee sleeves ended up in his take home bag. They sat on our kitchen table for weeks… I just couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. I mean look at that texture! I’m attending Haven at the end of June (I’m pretty dang excited about the speakers), and needed some new business cards. This was perfect. I stared at these for weeks…

Then one day, I’d had enough staring, and I chopped them up. At first, I was only going to use the center part since it was about the same size of a real business card. And the little ends were a little beat up… that is where the glued sleeve seam is… see?

I only had 20 sleeves and so if I didn’t use the little ends I would only get 20 cards… I decided to work with ’em… I used my corner cutter to round the edges of the small squar-ish ones after I stamped them with my good ol’ PSA Essential stamp.

The interchangeable middles on the stamp were fun. I have 2 C.R.A.F.T. related personalized stamps. I decide to switch it up combine my 2 stamps. I did my url around the C for C.R.A.F.T. instead of my name and email as you see on the stamp in the stamp in this picture. (I need a new stamp with Jamie Dorobek!)

Here’s a tip for the stamp ink situation… use a paint pen to label the bottom of the ink pads. I don’t know how else you could keep them straight since many of the ink colors look alike on the ink pad.

Here’s how I did it…

I stamped all my little squares first and then deiced to use the sewing technique on them. The same thing I did with the cereal boxes. I fed the cards through the sewing machine like this, cut them apart and then did it again…

I even tried a new technique with this batch… I ran the cards through the machine without the machine being threaded… it just punched little holes in the card. It was a super easy way to make a free cut out! See what I mean…

I added one or two adhesive backed rhinestones or pearls. And made a little blurb on Microsoft Word with all of the C.R.A.F.T. social media stuff and glued it on the card. Oh yea, I rounded the corners of the blurbs too.

Here are the 40 small parts of the coffee sleeves. No 2 cards are identical…

I had 20 of the big ones left, and I wanted to do something a little different… I was tired of the sewing technique. For whatever reason, splatter paint as been on the brain and I decided to test it out. Splatter painting is awesomeness. I want to splatter paint everything. Here’s my set up…

I just put a little paint on the brush and a lot of water and used my finger to splatter my cards. I think it worked best to splatter first, and stamp second.

Then I stamped ’em with black ink…

I decided they needed a little something more… I whipped out a black roller ball pen and gave each card a special doodle.

Some of my doodle were not cute, and I just cut it off and turned that card into a small business card with rounded edges!

I attempted a doodle with a paint pen… it got cut.

I printed out some more blurbs and glued them on the back.

I must say, business cards are pretty fun to make. They don’t take too long and best of all (after you buy the stamp) they’re free!

Each one is unique… some got a lot of doodle, and a few even got colorful doodles…

I love this idea and the cereal box one too. But the above business card idea is my favorite. I was wondering, where did you order you stamp from? I am having a hard time finding someone to make me a custom stamper for my recently started (last nite) craft business. I saw how a stamp with your logo put on simple brown paper packaging for photography prints (my hobbies are crafting and photography) and it looked so nice.

What a great idea, it’s amazing how almost anything can be reused. Funny, I keep stuff around too until I finally find a use for it. Then I’m so glad I did.
