Wrap it Up #9: Panty hose gift wrap

December 10, 2013 By Jamie Dorobek 2 Comments

We’ve got 3 more tutorials in the Wrap it Up series! Today we have another fun idea for up cycling old clothing… instead of men’s shirts, she used stockings or panty hose… whatever you wanna call ’em! I love how Nancy added doilies, twine, and those yellow sprigs are adorable!

Hello CRAFTers!  I’m Nancy.  I dabble in sewing and home decorating, and share it on my blog, owen’s olivia.  You will rarely find me use the classic red and green color combo in any of my Christmas decorating, and wrapping presents are no exception.

Below I will share with you how to reuse those worn out, but clean, stockings, aka panty hose or tights. The best thing about these presents, besides how easy they are, is the TEXTURE!!  Your recipient will definitely comment on how soft the package is!!

A few tips:

Make sure to clean your stockings well if they have been used.   Also, you can get really creative by using decorative hose that have patterns or even try the sweater knit variety.   I simply used what I had on hand.   These work best with smaller packages, but stockings do stretch!

Supplies:

  • stockings
  • craft paper
  • tape
  • fingernail polish
  • acrylic paint
  • paper doilies from the dollar store
  • twine
  • objects from nature (pictured: magnolia leaves, tree clippings, and craspedias)

Wrap your packages in craft paper.  This will not only block out what is being given but will also allow you to add any liquid embellishments (in moderation).

Carefully slip stocking over package.  Cut, and pull gently the excess to the back.  Hold down with tape.  Feel free to play around with the stockings like folding them over or just leaving it slightly open at the top.  You could even possibly forego the tape, and secure the stocking down when you tie string around it.DIY legging gift wrap

Using nail polish, decorate your stockings.  I chose simple polka dots.  Place a doily on your package, and wrap with twine.  Attach a tag, or use the doily to write a message.  Insert your natural objects under the twine, and you are done!  This is a very simplistic, minimal yet decorative design.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and you can find my inspiration on my blog.

Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. I’d leave those gifts unwrapped and sitting out as decoration!
