I write a column!

May 4, 2012 By Jamie Dorobek 6 Comments

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about this sooner! I get ridiculously excited when this arrives in my snail mail box every other month…

I write a column for a trade magazine called Craft Business. Yes, me!  According to their website it is the, “UK’s largest circulated and most frequently published craft trade magazine”. I’ve been doing it (for free) since January 2012. My article is about up and coming trends in the crafting world.

Here is what that page looked like in the Jan./Feb. magazine…

Here she is in print… (I’m like a proud mama!) My mom’s DIY license plate map made the magazine!

So what are the craft trends?
I do a little research (i.e. absurd amounts of pinning/ pin stalking paired with hours and hours of blog reading) and put together what I think is the latest and greatest in the wonderful world of DIY/crafts.

What were the craft trends for the January/ February2012 issue?
I wrote about bold, retro  color combinations, color blocking, maps, ombre, and the ikat pattern (remember my canvas?). Check out this pinterest screen shot… I’m lovin’ the pink and orange combo or would you ever have thought to put violet, gold, and turquoise together? In DIY world, I’ve been eying color blocked shoes and clutches.

Craft trends for the March/ April 2012 article?
I wrote about the explosion of inspiration found on pinterest, using recycled and up-cycled materials (light fixture from paint sticks), and the many, many applications for washi tape (wall paper, clock, cork board). Here is my second article in print!

And here is the whole page she-bang…

For the May/ June 2012 issue, in my humble opinion, the craft trends are neon, nautical, and tribal are the big thang in crafts! This article has not yet come out… so I have no pretty pdf.

That's so cool! You're like a real writer 🙂 I dont consider myself a real writer. I'm someone who rambles and for some reason people read it.
