Shaving Cream Paint

May 23, 2019 By Jamie Dorobek 1 Comment

Shaving cream is one of my favorite kid craft supplies. Remember when we used it to make shaving cream marbled prints?) It’s cheap, fun, and easily found at the grocery store. This shaving cream paint can be turned into many creatures, but today we’re making a paper plate polar bear!

Materials for shaving cream paint

  • 1 Can of shaving cream
  • 1 Bottle of glue
  • 2 Face pads (or cotton balls)
  • 2 Google eyes
  • 1 Black craft ball
  • 1 White paper plate
  • Bowl
  • Spoon (Or popsicle stick or chop stick)
  • Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear (Optional, but fun!)
  • Glitter and food coloring (Optional)

How to make shaving cream paint

I first heard about the magic of shaving cream paint from my preschool teacher friend, Annie. For the record, she calls shaving cream paint 3D puff paint. The directions below will make 1 paper plate polar bear.

Step 1- Add shaving cream

To make one polar bear, add half a bottle of shaving cream to a large plastic or aluminum mixing bowl. There is nothing wrong with a glass bowl, I just don’t recommend it since- kids!

Step 2- Add glue & stir

Next, add a half bottle of glue to the shaving cream. The measurements fo not need to be exact. Use the popsicle stick to mix up the concoction. Don’t over stir, you want the shaving cream to maintain its fluffiness. Now is the time to add food coloring if colored shaving cream paint is what you’re looking for!

Step 3- Scoop

Use the popsicle stick to scoop the paint on to the paper plate. Scoop until the paper plate is covered with puffy paint.Shaving cream puffy paint

Step 4- Decorate

Now it’s time to make the shaving cream paint into a polar bear! Place the google eyes in the center of the plate, and add a nose underneath the eyes. Next, add each of the face pads to the top sides of the plate to act as ears. Oh and if you’re feeling a sparkly polar bear, add a little glitter to the top!shaving cream puffy paint craft
Oh and don’t forget to read the book, Polar Bear Polar Bear, What Do You Hear, before you make the fluffy little guy!  Shaving cream puff paint can be turned into tons of creatures. Here are a few more ideas for white fluffy creatures and objects:
  • Clouds
  • Snowman
  • Sheep
  • Vanilla ice cream

Have you ever make 3D puffy paint with shaving cream? I’d love to hear…
