Kwik Wood Greatness

June 24, 2011 By Jamie Dorobek 4 Comments

Has your dog ever done this to your molding? Mine hasn’t. Actually, I don’t even have a dog. Annie bought a house a few years ago, and the previous owners pooch did this to the laundry room…
KwikWood does exactly what it says it will do…Quickly turns into wood 🙂 It’s a miracle. According to their website, it will bind to virtually any combination of iron, steel, copper, aluminum, brass, bronze, pewter, porcelain, ceramic, marble, glass, PVC & ABS, concrete, fiberglass, wood, fabric, paper — just about any porous and non-porous material.
It comes formed in this little tube. You can buy a KwikWood repair kit on Amazon here.
The outside tube is a different color than the inside part
Cut what you need and mix until one color…once it is one color you know you have mixed it enough…
Sculpt it on your molding with wet fingers….beware it stinks!
Keep sculpting and cover until you like how it looks…you have 15-25 minutes of work life
Let it dry 15 minutes and sand as much as needed.  It is is paint- able after an hour…
Pretty as new 🙂
I’ve heard there is also kwik plastic and kwik steel! I’m impressed. Thanks, Annie for introducing us to kwik wood!

This sounds like a much better option than the Minwax wood filler I just used. It, too, smelled bad, but it also was awful to figure out the amount of additional hardener to add to the amount being used, difficult to mix, and messy! I will try this the next time. There are always places that need patching in older houses.

My dog got a little chew happy one day and chewed the banister. My parents are considering selling the house and I showed them this to fix it all up! Great tip! Thanks for sharing!

Wow! That rocks! I need something like this for my porch railing… do you know if it's ok to use outdoors? Your wood looks amazing now!

Wow! I've never seen that product, but it's pretty neat! The previous owners of our home kept a small dog in a TINY bathroom and he destroyed the woodwork. I don't think they make enough of this product to fix ours though! But I'll keep it in mind for other areas of the house that have chipped mouldings. Thanks!
