Tie Dye Nails

June 3, 2015 By Jamie Dorobek 12 Comments

The tie dye nails are a popular post from 2011! Annie is the creator of these tie dye beauties and she had a baby girl yesterday! (She named her Sloan. How fun is that?!) We were recently hanging out and decided to whip up some tie dye manicures.  This is such a fun and simple craft idea to do with kids this summer. It takes a little getting used to, but I promise after a few attempts you will be a tie dye pro!
Oh and if you are looking for more fun things to do with the kids while school is out, check out this list of 104 things to do with kids this summer!
Tie Dye Nail Art

Materials:
  • plastic cup or bowl
  • room temperature water
  • toothpick
  • a few nail polish colors
  • tape
  • nail polish remover
First, paint your nails a base coat. White is fun so that the colors really pop. Then, tape around your nails so that clean up is a little easier.

This process needs to be done quickly to avoid letting the nail polish dry. Fill your plastic cup 3/4 of the way with water and drop your nail polish in a bulls eye pattern.

Continue until you have 6- 12 circles in your bulls eye. If you notice that a drop falls the bottom, this brand/color of nail polish will not work.Nail design
Use a toothpick to drag and swirl your nail polish colors.

Quickly (you don’t want the nail polish to dry) place your nail, palm up and dip it into the center of the bulls eye. Swirl a toothpick to grab the used nail polish. Do this for each nail. Yes, you have to remake a nail polish bullseye for each nail! Annie can sometimes get two nails done in one bullseye, but for your first attempts I would start fresh each time.

Use nail polish remover to clean up around your nails…or take a hot shower and peel the paint off with your fingers!

OK, I haven’t painted my nails in at least a decade, and this is the first idea that’s made me want to!
Wonder what else would work with the same method…?
