Dresser Makeover

July 7, 2016 By Jamie Dorobek 7 Comments

We’ve been slowly but surely working on giving our master bedroom a much needed spruce up. We got a few new pieces of furniture and even added removable wall paper to one wall. Next up, this french provincial dresser that Andy was given for free when he lived in Florida and had no furniture. Everyone in the building felt sorry for him and he ended up with an apartment full of free furniture before I arrived. (More on that saga here.) Fast forward 4 years, and we are still using the dresser. We’ve been meaning to give it a makeover, but furniture makeovers are one of those projects that need a lot of your time. And free time is a thing of the past with our two little nuggets. So, I teamed up with Thumbtack to get this dresser finished!

So, let’s get to the good stuff, here is the before and after:

When Maxwell was a baby, oh about 18 months ago, Andy started trying to do it himself. Here’s how far he got:

And it’s been living in our master bedroom like that for almost a year now. Thumbtack to the rescue! If you haven’t heard of Thumbtack, it’s my go to place to get stuff done. Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects people who need to get things done with skilled professionals. Anything from family pictures, to swim lessons for the kids, and even home remodels! It’s as easy as going to thumbtack.com, and filling out the first question box, “What service do you need?” I typed in “furniture makeover”. From there, I was asked 4 more questions and uploaded one picture of my dresser. Within 2 hours, I had 2 quotes on how much it would cost to refinish my dresser. I ended up choosing, Steven who had a great price, and said he could complete the dresser makeover within 8 hours.

We emailed a few times and he even said he would come pick the dresser up and complete the project in his studio. None of the mess even had to happen in my house, bonus! Steven picked the dresser and paint up on a Wednesday and had it back the following Monday morning. He used Rust-oleum Chalked Paint in charcoal to paint the dresser. I paid him $150, and my dresser was complete! Wish I would have used Thumbtack a long time ago!

I’ve got 2 more professionals lined up to give us quotes to lay sod in our backyard. Currently our backyard is weeds, dirt, and clover. Hopefully, more on that soon! What project are you dying to check off of your to do list, but don’t know where to start? Thumbtack to the rescue!

The dresser looks fantastic. Much more modern. How lovely he was given so much free furniture in the first place.
