The best of C.R.A.F.T. in 2011 (and lessons learned!)

January 4, 2012 By Jamie Dorobek 13 Comments

By best of C.R.A.F.T., I just mean the most page views per post. I debated adding the actual number of page views in this post because I don’t want you to think I’m bragging. At the end of the day, I know I would love to see this informations on other folks blogs, so I decided y’all might find it interesting too. I like sharing all of the deets… I’m a talker, and I’ll tell anyone– anything. Eespecially if you were talking DIY, blog, or crafts!

You can learn a lot from looking at good ol google analytics. Which I did not start doing until Dec. 6, 2010. If you have a blog, please, please… sign up now… even if you have no idea what it is or how to use it!

The number one most viewed post on C.R.A.F.T. in 2011 was…

1: 20 unique pumpkin ideas (461,664 page views, 21 comments)

Lesson learned: Sign up for Stumble Upon and use it! (Follow me if you’d like.) Stumble others posts you really like and even stumble your own every now and then! Thank you to whomever stumbled this post! You rock! I also learned (from a rude comment) that you can NOT just copy and paste pictures from other sites, you have to save them to your computer and then upload them to your blog! Thank you, Lorie and everyone on C.R.A.F.T. facebook, for nicely explaining it to me.

2: C.R.A.F.T. #76: How to fix a broken I-Phone Screen (112,647 page views, 27 comments)
Lesson Learned: I debated and debated whether or not to post about DIY-ing a broken IPhone screen… and I’m so happy I posted it! If it’s useful for you, most likely others will find it useful too… It has saved us hundreds of dollars! I owe Sugardoodle a shout out for listing this post in her random 10 page back in May of 2011!

3: C.R.A.F.T. #21: Mini Scrapbook (45,090 page views, 13 comments)

Lesson Learned: Thank you again, Stumble Upon! The funny thing about this post is when it originally went live in March of 2010 (just one month into my blogging obsession), I had awful cell phone pics in the post. When I realized the post was getting a lot of action, (I was embarrassed of my pathetic pics) I took better ones and changed them out! I could not fathom the idea of people coming to my space and seeing awful pictures! I have done that quite a few times now with older posts!

4: C.R.A.F.T. #82: How to tie dye Nails (22,868 page views, 25 comments)

Lesson Learned: Submit your posts to the big blogs, link up to parties, and pin your own stuff! AND once again, make your pictures pretty, even if it is after the fact! I just changed this one now! I have lots of people to thank for this post… Annie (these are her nails and her tutorial!), Jen @ Tatertots and Jello, and Pinterest!

5: I’m sew very happy freebie (22,559 page views, 9 comments)

Lesson Learned: I re-did this printable. It used to look like this. My theory is if I don’t like it or am tired of… you probably are too… I had the old version hanging in my house and decided it needed an update.  I made a new one and y’all liked it better too! This post went viral thanks to Everything Etsy! I was #2 on the 101 Pretty Printables list!!!

6:  C.R.A.F.T. #72: DIY Basal wood drawer organizer (11,835  page views, 21 comments)

Lessons Learned: This is still one of my all time favorite projects! I LOVE this drawer, like really, really love it. I submitted this to Curbly and they posted about it, thank you!! Submit, submit, submit. Be squeaky 🙂 Curbly recently re- posted about it in their top 10 DIY organization ideas… whahooo! (I’ve got the  magnetic board with contact paper high on my to-do list!)

7: Valentine C.R.A.F.T. #1: ABC Freebie (8,916 page views, 30 comments)

Lessons Learned: If you are posting about holiday related things, try your best to post it a minimum of a month before. This original post was on January 10, 2011. I feel like it was perfect timing for people to notice it and post about it! I was so so so excited when Ashely @ Ashely Ann Photography gave C.R.A.F.T. some link love for this little printable.

8: 20 Halloween wreaths (6,767page views, 4 comments)

Lessons Learned: I like round ups, and so do other people! I love having all the images and ideas I like on one post! For C.R.A.F.T., holiday round ups seem to be a big hit!

9: C.R.A.F.T. # 79: Hex nut Bracelet (6,274 page views, 12 comments)
Lessons Learned: Again, link it up, baby! Thank you One Pretty Thing, Pinterest, and Craft Gossip!
10: Dad’s day gift round up (5,504 page views, 3 comments)

Lessons Learned: Crafters like their round ups! And once again, thank you, Stumble Upon!

C.R.A.F.T.’s top 10 referrals in 2011 were:
1: Stumble Upon
2: Pinterest
3: Feedburner
4: Google
5: Everything Etsy
6: Facebook
7: One Pretty Thing
8: Someday Crafts
9: Be Different Act Normal
10: Sugar Doodle
THANK YOU to everyone who has featured C.R.A.F.T. in 2011… you have no idea how excited it makes me each and every time I see my creations on the internet!
And there you have it… the top 10 most viewed posts on C.R.A.F.T. in 2011 🙂 I think it is interesting to note that the top viewed does not equal the most commented on, weird right?  It’s also interesting to note that the top 10 in 2011 are not the same as the top 10 most viewed posts ever on C.R.A.F.T… 8 of the 10 are the same. You can see that list on the left hand side of the ‘ol blog.
Thank y’all for reading, I really can’t believe so many take their time to read my about my silly crafts! It makes me wish I would have majored in creative writing and photography in college, instead of psychology! Oh well, everything happens for a reason, right?

Happy 2012!

You're welcome! There are a lot of buttons and graphs…it is HARD when you first start looking at it. As for dates- in the upper right hand corner there is a little box with dates and a pull down bar…click the pull down arrow and you can put in any dates you want… last month, last week, last year!

oh, I forgot to ask how I set the time period I want to view? Like if I wanted to do my top 10 posts for 2012 at the end of this year -how would I set it to only look at posts in that year?

I love the pumpkin burger. What a fun idea! And glad for the tip about not copying and pasting photos from other sites (I didn't know you had to save them to your computer and then upload them).
I signed up for Google Analytics about 3 days ago… but can't figure it out. I can see the pageviews for the whole blog, but can't seem to see which post people are visiting. Could you help me out? megan(dot)moore(dot)86(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Yay! Looks like a great year! I'm still trying to figure out the Stumble Upon thing. I had a button that showed up on each post of mine and now it has disappeared 🙁 Anyway, I am a new Stumble Upon follower of yours.
